Our Mission

  • Safe Cats of Barbados operates a small Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program to humanely manage the stray population. TNR is the only evidence-based method of stabilizing the stray population and maintaining healthy colonies;

  • To work with hotels, restaurants and resorts to help manage their stray cat population and keep cats and  guests happy and healthy. Cats become an asset in controlling rodents, bugs and other pests;

  • To find loving homes for cats and kittens abandoned on the streets;

  • To educate and assist pet owners in their efforts to take care of their animals effectively and safely;

  • To provide assistance to animals in need whatever their circumstances;

  • To arrange travel escorts to the United States where these beauties have loving homes waiting.

  • To assist visitors who wish to take home a kitty. UK, USA or Canada.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.

WE ARE VOLUNTEER-RUN AND DONATION-FUNDED. PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM.

Why We Exist

Barbados faces a significant and growing stray cat population, with thousands of cats struggling to survive on the streets without access to food, shelter, or veterinary care.

Sadly, many of these animals suffer neglect, abandonment, and cruelty. Our team is regularly called upon to respond to heartbreaking situations that highlight the urgent need for intervention. We have rescued a mother cat and her five newborn kittens who had been duct-taped to a garbage bin and left to perish. In another case, five newborn kittens were sealed inside a taped box and abandoned in the scorching heat, with little chance of survival.

These are not isolated incidents. Every day, cats across the island face injury, disease, starvation, abuse, road traffic accidents, and attacks from other animals. Without assistance, many endure unnecessary suffering and premature death.

Our Beliefs

We believe that every living creature deserves compassion, protection, and the opportunity to live free from fear and suffering. Our mission is to provide rescue, medical care, rehabilitation, and, where possible, loving homes for cats in need.

Through our work, we not only save individual lives but also promote humane and sustainable solutions to reduce the stray cat population and improve animal welfare throughout Barbados.

For the cats we rescue, a single act of kindness can mean the difference between life and death. We remain committed to being that lifeline for the most vulnerable animals in our community.

Our Impact: 2000+ cats rescued, rehomed or supported; 2500+ cats spayed/neutered; 450+ cats sent to loving homes overseas; 100+ visitors helped with pet travel; support several hotels and resorts to manage their cat communities.
