About Us
A Shared Vision, A Lifeline for Barbados' Cats

Safe Cats of Barbados was founded on a simple but powerful belief: every cat deserves compassion, protection, and the chance to live a healthy life.

Behind the organization are two dedicated animal advocates, Wendy and Barbara, whose shared commitment to improving the lives of Barbados' most vulnerable cats has transformed concern into action and action into lasting change.

Where It Began

For years, both Wendy and Barbara witnessed the growing challenges facing stray and abandoned cats across Barbados. From tiny kittens left to fend for themselves to injured and neglected cats struggling to survive on the streets, the scale of the problem was impossible to ignore.

Although they came from different backgrounds, they shared the same conviction: that humane, sustainable solutions were needed to address the island's cat overpopulation crisis while improving animal welfare and supporting local communities.

Recognizing that meaningful change would require dedication, collaboration, and a long-term vision, they joined forces to create Safe Cats of Barbados.

Turning Compassion into Action

What began as individual rescue efforts soon evolved into a mission-driven organisation focused on rescue, rehabilitation, education, and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

Since its founding, Safe Cats of Barbados has worked tirelessly to:
  • Rescue cats and kittens from dangerous and life-threatening situations.

  • Provide veterinary care and rehabilitation for sick and injured cats.

  • Promote responsible pet ownership.

  • Implement humane TNR programmes to reduce overpopulation.

  • Support communities, businesses, hotels, and property owners in managing community cat colonies.

  • Educate the public about animal welfare and compassionate coexistence.

Every cat rescued represents a life changed. Every cat sterilised helps prevent countless future kittens from being born into suffering.

Our Shared Vision

Wendy and Barbara believe that animal welfare and community wellbeing go hand in hand.

Their vision is a Barbados where no cat suffers from neglect, abandonment, or preventable illness; where humane population management replaces ineffective and inhumane practices; and where communities recognise the value of compassion in creating a healthier environment for both people and animals.

Through rescue, education, advocacy, and TNR, Safe Cats of Barbados is working towards a future where every cat is treated with dignity and every community has the tools and support needed to manage cat populations humanely.

Looking Ahead

The challenges remain significant, but so does our determination.

Every rescue, every neuter, every volunteer, every foster home, and every donor plays a vital role in helping us create lasting change.

Together, we are building a more compassionate future for Barbados' cats—one life at a time.

Safe Cats of Barbados - Rescuing. Protecting. Educating. Creating lasting change.
