Trap - Neuter - Release
The stray cat population in Barbados continues to grow at an alarming rate. Without intervention, a single unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce thousands of kittens over their lifetime. It is estimated that, in just seven years, one breeding pair and their descendants can result in hundreds of thousands of kittens.

This is why Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programmes are so important.
TNR is internationally recognised as the most effective and humane method of managing community cat populations.
By humanely trapping cats, sterilizing them, providing basic veterinary care, and returning them to their established territories, population growth is gradually reduced while improving the health and welfare of the cats already living there.
Uncontrolled cat populations can lead to increased suffering for the animals themselves, placing pressure on communities and creating public health concerns.
Simply removing cats from an area is not a long-term solution.
When cats are removed, new cats quickly move into the vacant territory and begin breeding, perpetuating the cycle. TNR breaks this cycle.

Neutered cats are generally healthier, less likely to roam, fight, spray, or engage in mating behaviours that can cause disturbances.
Managed colonies become stable populations that help control rats and other rodents, providing a natural and effective form of pest management for neighbourhoods, businesses, hotels, resorts, restaurants, and residential communities.
We are committed to helping individuals, communities, businesses, hotels, resorts, and restaurants humanely manage their stray cat populations through TNR and rescue efforts. However, we cannot do it alone.

Need Help Managing a Community Cat Colony?
If you are caring for a group of stray or community cats, or have a colony living near your home, or neighbourhood, you do not have to face the challenge alone.
Safe Cats of Barbados can provide advice, support, and assistance in implementing humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programmes that help stabilise and reduce cat populations over time.
We can guide you through the process, help assess the needs of the colony, and work with you to improve the health and welfare of the cats while reducing nuisance behaviours associated with breeding.
Whether you are feeding a few cats or managing a larger colony, our goal is to help create a sustainable solution that benefits both the cats and the community. Contact us to learn how we can work together to make a lasting difference.
